National Extension College (NEC): Bringing education to you
1st November 2023
For over 60 years, National Extension College (NEC) has worked towards the goal of transforming lives and opening up new educational possibilities for people of all ages.
For over half of those years, NEC has worked in partnership with the Prisoners’ Education Trust (PET) to overcome challenges in order to offer further learning opportunities for people in prison.
“What attracted me to the National Extension College was its commitment to widening participation and how distance learning can reach people who would otherwise not be able to benefit from education.”
NEC Chief Executive Esther Chesterman
Developing a digital course
Most recently, NEC and PET have been working together alongside Coracle Inside, who aim to promote learning and digital literacy to all, ensuring no one is isolated from learning.
Together we have been developing new resources which will allow people in prison to learn and study in their own space through engaging digital courses that can be accessed with a laptop.
